We had a cold snap this month. The record breaking low temperatures reminded us what we love about winter. Snow Days!! We only got one but for San Antonio that is remarkable. J..h was so excited. She was really missing all the fun snow activities. Unfortunately the snow wasn’t quite what she was used to. It barely stuck to the ground and didn’t stick to the lawn at all. Still the girls donned their snow apparel and had a blast making snow tracks on the driveway. Burke and I had a good chuckle at the cities emergency snow plan. They shut down all the freeways and wait for it to melt.
Once the cold snap passed it warmed up beautifully and we were able to start spending more time outdoors. Still longing for snow the girls invented Texas Sledding. They used the toy box lid to slide down the tiny incline in our yard into a pile of leaves. It is almost as fun as real sledding!
J..h continues to excel in school. Her last report card boasted straight A’s. She also completed her first report. It was for black history month and J..h chose to do her report on Marian Anderson. I had no idea who she was but J..h remembered learning about her during a library story time and knew that she wanted to write her report on the first black women to debut at the New York Metropolitan Opera. She got an A and impressed her teacher and classmates with her poster.
S..a is still as sweet as ever. She has a very busy schedule and tolerates all of her activities. Mondays is gymnastics and play group. Tuesdays and Thursdays is Joy School and on Wednesdays and Fridays she goes to “real” pre-school. Her best friend moved to Idaho this month and it was very hard for her. She cried a lot and refused to sit in primary without her friend. After a few heart to heart’s with Mom she was able to overcome her feelings and decide to make some new friends. In Joy School we have been learning a lot about our feelings and how to express them appropriately and also how to change our sad feelings to happy ones. She is really starting to understand that she can choose to be happy even when things are sad or hard. I am so grateful for all the experiences that help her learn how to deal with hard things. She is growing up so fast and I love her so much!
Biddy is as cute as ever. She is becoming more and more independent. This month she learned how to climb in and out of her huge queen size bed by herself. It was rough the first few days getting her to stay when we told her to but she learned quick. She is also adamant about getting in and out of the car on her own and wants to sit at the big table like everyone else. We are still working on getting her to try new foods but it is slow and painful. She loves her nursery class, knows all about Jesus and says wonderful prayers. She is still doing great on the potty and is getting more independent there as well. We get a laugh when she decides she needs her privacy and says “ go away” and makes you leave and shut the door. Of coarse when she is done she just sits there and yells until you come get her. Like her sisters she loves to wear fancy dresses and already throws a fit when I dress her in anything else. Why is that? For now I am winning and I have most of her dresses hidden in the closet so she can get used to wearing what I pick out. Biddy is always smiling, laughing, quick to say l love you, please and thank you and says hello, and see you later to everyone she meets. She brings so much light and joy into my life every day.
We topped of the month by attending the local carnival. It was a fun month.
